Frequently asked questions

Our mission is to be a point of reference for anyone in need of a rental vehicle in Lecce.
We invite you to read the general terms and conditions that govern the rental agreement – consulting them will allow you to enjoy your rental experience with complete peace of mind.

Driver Eligibility and Vehicle Use
In addition to current legal regulations at the time of rental, the use of the vehicle is permitted only if the following requirements are met:

  • Driver’s Age
For any vehicle group, the driver must be between 25 and 65 years old. Exceptions may be granted upon payment of the “young driver” surcharge.

  • Required Documents
A valid category B (or higher) driving licence with legible European characters, held for at least 12 months. The licence must be issued by a European Union country or, alternatively, accompanied by a valid International Driving Permit. Photocopies or temporary/replacement documents will not be accepted. A valid form of ID is also required, along with one or more bank-issued credit cards.

  • Authorised Driver
Only the person named on the rental agreement is permitted to drive the vehicle. The customer must inform the branch, at the time of contract signing, of any additional drivers. Each additional authorised driver is subject to a supplementary fee. If the additional driver is under 25 or over 70 years of age, a further fee will apply, varying depending on the location, vehicle category, and rental duration.
The rental provider reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to refuse the rental of a vehicle and/or to deny authorisation to any individual without providing justification.

At the time of vehicle pick-up, you will be required to provide a security deposit for your rental. The deposit amount will be held on your credit card limit as a pre-authorisation by the card issuer and will not be charged. This deposit is required to cover any additional costs that may arise during the rental period.

The deposit amounts are as follows:

  • €500.00 for vehicles in categories A/B/C

  • €800.00 for vehicles in categories D/E

  • €1,000.00 for all other vehicle categories

If you have booked a prepaid rental through an online broker, the deposit amount may vary depending on the broker. This amount is usually stated on your voucher or on the broker’s website. The rental provider reserves the right to refuse the rental if the deposit amount is deemed insufficient.

The release of the pre-authorised amount will take place upon the return of the vehicle. A release receipt will be issued at the counter or sent to you via email. However, the actual availability of the funds may not be immediate and is subject to the policies of your card issuer. The release process can take up to 30 days from the date of the unblocking. Once the deposit is released on our end, we have no control over the time it takes for the funds to become available again—this is managed entirely by credit card companies and interbank networks.

If, upon return, the vehicle shows any internal or external damage, irregularities, mechanical faults, or other issues requiring further inspection by specialised personnel, the deposit may be withheld for a longer period.

To provide the security deposit, you must present a bank-issued credit card with embossed numbers. However, for a limited selection of vehicles and only for certain categories, it is possible to rent using a debit or prepaid Visa or Mastercard, provided it bears the cardholder’s name and surname. In such cases, it is mandatory to purchase an additional insurance policy at the counter to eliminate or reduce the contractual damage liability. Cash or non-personalised cards will not be accepted.

Please read this document carefully before completing your booking, as it contains important information regarding your reservation, including what you must bring when collecting the vehicle.

Booking Terms and Conditions

A booking allows you to reserve a vehicle and any additional options for collection at a specified date, time, and location, for the agreed rental period. Customers must meet our minimum rental requirements and must accept and sign the rental agreement. Bookings can be made by phone through our staff, in person at our agency, or online at www.globerent.it.
The applicable rates at the time of booking will be honoured when the rental agreement is signed, thereby finalising the contract. Until that moment, no information or content shall be deemed contractually binding. A booking does not constitute a rental agreement.

If you book using the online payment option, you will be required to pay the amount shown on the website as a security deposit. This amount will be charged immediately and serves as confirmation of your booking. The remaining balance will be charged upon collection of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is not collected at the agreed date and time, and more than 59 minutes have elapsed, the rental provider reserves the right to consider the booking cancelled and to issue an invoice for the deposit previously paid.

You may cancel your booking up to 2 days before the scheduled collection date. To do so, you must send an email to requesting cancellation and a refund of the deposit. If this notice is not provided within the stated time frame, and the vehicle has been held at your disposal, no refund will be issued, and a valid invoice will be sent for the deposit. In the event of cancellation, the refund will be processed within 10 working days.

A no-show penalty will apply if the booking is cancelled due to failure to meet the minimum rental requirements, or if the customer fails to cancel and does not appear at the rental desk. This penalty corresponds to the entire amount previously paid and is non-refundable.

Customers may modify their booking at any time prior to the scheduled pick-up by contacting the agency or sending an email, subject to availability. Modifications on the same day of collection are also possible, depending on availability. A confirmation email will be sent detailing the new booking terms and any additional charges.
All modification requests are subject to availability and may result in a change in price, as modified bookings are subject to the rates in effect on the date of change.
If, due to unavailability, we are unable to accommodate the requested modification and the customer chooses to cancel, the cancellation penalty will still apply.

Accepted payment cards for rentals are American Express, Diners, Visa, and MasterCard (prepaid cards excluded).
Prepaid credit cards can be used for online payments but will not be accepted at the rental desk.
If the customer does not have a bank-issued credit card with embossed numbers, prior authorisation must be obtained from the branch. In such cases, booking may not be permitted, and the rate may differ from the one displayed on the website.
Payments can be made via our secure online payment page using a credit or debit card. Your card will be charged at the time of order and booking confirmation.

Vehicle Pick-up

At the start of the rental, the customer must confirm the planned return date and, if authorised, the return branch. Any change to this commitment must be communicated to the branch where the rental began.
Changes made during the rental period may not be accepted by the branch, which may require the return of the vehicle no later than the date specified in the rental agreement.

The customer acknowledges that the rental ends on the date and time when both the vehicle and its keys are returned to the rental provider. Failure to return the vehicle and/or keys more than 24 hours after the agreed return time will result in a penalty of €250.00 for each day of delay.

If the vehicle is not returned on the agreed date and more than 24 hours have passed without any contact from the customer, the rental provider reserves the right to report the incident to the authorities for unauthorised use.

A rental day is considered to be 24 hours, with a 30-minute grace period. After that, an additional rental day will be charged.

Before collecting the vehicle, the customer must verify that the vehicle’s condition matches the vehicle condition report (so-called “check-out form”) provided by the rental provider. Special attention should be paid to the exterior bodywork, windows and mirrors, interior condition, as well as rims and hubcaps.

If there is any discrepancy between the actual condition of the vehicle and what is stated on the check-out form, the customer must immediately contact a member of staff to verify the condition jointly before the rental begins.
Any discrepancies reported after pick-up — even if supported by photos or witness statements — will not be considered. Only the signed check-out form at the start of the rental will be deemed valid.

Vehicle Return

The customer is obliged to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, except for normal wear and tear based on mileage. The vehicle must be returned with its tyres, documents, and full equipment in place.

Returns must take place at the rental provider’s office during normal business hours. At the time of return, the customer will check and sign the “check-in” form indicating the vehicle’s condition. By signing this form, the customer expressly accepts that failure to sign it will waive their right to dispute any damage charges applied by the rental provider.

If the vehicle is returned outside office hours, the customer remains fully responsible for any damage discovered when the office reopens, and equally responsible for theft or loss of the vehicle or keys left in the drop box.

For vehicles returned in the evening and found to be excessively dirty or under certain weather conditions that prevent proper inspection, the checks will be carried out on the following day or after the vehicle has been cleaned.

Accessories and Additional Services

Age Surcharge
Drivers aged between 20 and 25, and over 76, may only rent vehicles in groups A – B – C – D, subject to a surcharge of €12.00 per day.

Additional Driver
An additional charge of €7.00 per day applies for each driver other than the main contract holder.

Personal Accident Insurance (P.A.I.)
In the event of an at-fault accident, standard third-party liability insurance does not cover the driver’s own injuries. However, for €3.00 per day, we offer optional personal accident insurance covering:

  • Up to €25,000.00 in the event of death or permanent disability

  • Up to €5,000.00 for medical expenses
An accident is defined as an event that is sudden, external, and violent, causing objectively verifiable bodily injury.
The insurance applies to any authorised driver listed on the rental contract, provided they are licensed and legally entitled to drive under current laws.
(This coverage is referred to as Personal Accident Insurance / P.A.I.)

Out-of-Hours Collection

  • €25.00 for collections up to 22:00

  • €70.00 for collections after 22:00

Available Extras:

  • Booster Seat (15–36 kg, approx. 8–12 years): €25.00 per rental

  • Child Seat (9–18 kg, approx. 1–3 years): €35.00 per rental

  • Infant Seat (0–13 kg, approx. 0–12 months): €35.00 per rental

All accessories can be requested when booking or at the rental desk, subject to availability. All prices include VAT.

Additional Services

Fines and Tolls
The customer is responsible for reimbursing the rental provider for any fines issued or unpaid motorway tolls incurred during the rental period.
An additional €60.00 administration fee will be charged for each fine or toll, even if the fine is later overturned or declared unlawful by a court.

Vehicle Cleaning
Vehicles are normally delivered clean, and basic cleaning is included in the rental rate.
If the vehicle is returned excessively dirty — particularly with stains on seats or upholstery, or accumulated sand or debris beyond normal use — a cleaning fee will apply, ranging from a minimum of €20.00 to a maximum of €100.00.

Fuel Refill Service
Vehicles are delivered with a full tank. If returned with less fuel, the missing litres will be charged, along with a €25.00 refuelling service fee.

The customer is responsible for any damage caused to the vehicle during the rental period, within the limits specified in the rental agreement. In the event of theft, fire, collision damage, or vandalism, a damage liability fee will apply.
The amount of the liability fee for theft/fire/vandalism (STP) and collision damage (SKO), as well as the cost of any optional liability reduction or waiver, is specified at the bottom of the rental agreement.

Liability limitation (STP–SKO) is not an insurance policy and becomes void in the event of wilful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the customer or any authorised/unauthorised driver. In such cases, the customer is liable to pay the full value of the vehicle.

In the event of total or partial theft or fire, the customer is required to file a formal police report and provide a copy to the rental branch within 24 hours of the incident. The customer must also cooperate fully with the rental provider in managing any resulting legal proceedings.

Waiver of Liability for Damage, Theft, and Fire

The customer may choose to waive the standard liability fees for damage, theft, and fire (partial or total), by paying an additional daily fee, which must be agreed upon and added at the time of signing the rental contract.

Even with liability waiver options, the customer remains obligated to exercise reasonable care and vigilance over the vehicle.
In the event of an accident caused by the customer, a €200.00 + VAT administrative fee will still be charged for claims handling, even if the liability waiver has been purchased.

Liability waivers do not cover:

  • Damage caused by natural disasters

  • Damage to the interior upholstery or cabin

  • Damage to the underbody of the vehicle

  • Damage caused by vegetation

  • Loss of vehicle keys or number plates

The customer forfeits all benefits of the liability waiver if they fail to return the keys or fail to provide the required police report in the event of theft. In such cases, the customer must pay the full market value of the vehicle based on the Eurotax Yellow guide.

In all cases of theft or fire, regardless of liability waivers, the customer will be required to pay an additional €90.00 + VAT as a claims handling fee.
